Filing a roof claim in Texas isn’t complicated, but the order of operations matters more than most homeowners realize. Do it in the right sequence and it’s smooth; do it backwards and you’re negotiating uphill. Here’s the whole process.
1. Inspection Before Filing — Always
Never file a claim on a hunch. Get a professional inspection with dated photos first. If there’s no legitimate damage, you’ve avoided a pointless claim on your record; if there is, you now have the evidence that anchors everything that follows. (Ours are free.)
2. File With Evidence
Call your carrier or file online, referencing the storm date. Attach the photo documentation. You’ll get a claim number and an adjuster assignment within days.
3. The Adjuster Meeting — Don’t Go It Alone
The adjuster inspects your roof and writes the scope of loss. Have your roofer on the roof at the same time. Adjusters are human: they work fast, and legitimate damage gets missed. A contractor who documents professionally can walk the adjuster through every slope. This single step changes outcomes more than any other — it’s standard practice in our storm claim service.
4. Review the Scope, Supplement If Needed
The carrier sends a scope and first payment (ACV — actual cash value). If the scope missed items — code-required components, damaged gutters and siding, hidden decking — your roofer files a supplement with evidence. This is normal, not adversarial.
5. Build, Then Collect Depreciation
After the roof is complete, the contractor sends a completion invoice and the carrier releases the recoverable depreciation (the holdback). Your total out-of-pocket should be exactly your deductible.
Know Your Texas Rights
- Deductibles are mandatory. HB 2102 makes waiving them illegal — walk away from any contractor who offers.
- You choose the contractor. Your carrier can suggest, never require.
- Claim deadlines are real. Typically one year from the storm date — some policies less. Document early.

“My neighbor’s roof had damage that created a huge leak. Trident guided them through the insurance process and had a brand new quality roof up in one day. While on site, Kaleb took a look at my roof, found some damaged spots, and gave me a reasonable quote.”
